It’s interesting because Merlin has the ability, as is explored quite a lot through this season, where he can change into an old man and there is the possibility that he could get stuck as the old man. That’s something that could happen, that would be a very conclusive ending - right, that’s old Merlin and Arthur, off.

I would like to see a more hopeful kind of ending - you’ve seen these guys right from the beginning and it ends on a place where they’re on the cusp of the future, something big. We already have the images of Merlin the old guy and Arthur the king in our heads, it’s been told a lot and we know that. I’d like to see something different, I’d like to see them just on the brink of a new adventure. While they’re still relatively young - you don’t want to burn them out too quickly.
